The step settings should have a toggle to allow us to ignore base layout when selecting things in a step. This allows us to edit the features unique to a step without the base layout getting in the way.
It also would synergize nicely with features suggested here: Layers in App Editor
and especially here: Add a base layout for each step group
These are both topics I replied to recently because I feel they are very important. In doing so, it occurred to me that this is not a feature yet. Combined with enabling multiple base layouts, it would solve some of the problems people want to use layers to fix. Enabling multiple base layouts would allow base layouts to do more work, which in turn would make my suggested feature more powerful.
Hi @thorsten.langner ,
Doesn’t this just move things between the base layout and the step? I meant you should be able to ignore the base layout when clicking in step. For example, if you have something in the background on the base layout, and a widget in front of it in the step, this setting would not allow the object in the base layout to be selected.
I just wanted to clarify that what I’m describing is normal behavior for the app in *box selections *but not for single selection. The ability to just toggle this behavior on and off for both individual and box selections would make it easier to work in environments with many widgets. This includes making it easier to declutter said environments.
