Tulip Player on Raspberry Pi

Any plans for supporting Tulip player on Raspberry Pi/Linux

Hi @gaurav.garg - Not immediately, what use cases are you thinking of for the Raspberry Pi?

Hi…for some of our projects we use Raspberry Pi, TAKT Board is one example.

Have you tried the web player Recommended Devices For Running the Tulip Player | Tulip Knowledge Base - Support for Building Operations Apps
Using chrome

We have one manufacturing site in our company using raspberry pi’s to run the player in an image that boots directly to chromium in kiosk mode at each station.

We have used the chrome browser on the Pi’s with tulip. The only limitation is any device related triggers wont work if connected to the Pi via usb. Only the Player app seems capable of that.

True, these type of stations would require a dedicate EMC to provide device triggers.

Hey All,

@Alan.Madorin hit on the biggest limitation of running Tulip Apps in a browser, device output functions generally don’t work.

Tulip is in the final stages of the development of our newest edge device, the EdgeIO. This device offers tons of the nice features of a rasPi (GPIO, Node-Red, etc.) but in hardware intended to be in a manufacturing environment longterm. This device can natively run the tulip player, just plug in a monitor and you’re ready to rock and roll.

Availability is a little limited on EdgeIOs, but that will be changing in the coming weeks. Supply chain issues.

Would like to have this feature too! Currently we are about get many computers to run Tulip Player, and this feature to run Player into a Raspberry could be definitely a cost less option!

yep! this is definitely on the Edge team’s radar. We’re prioritizing an iOS app before this, as well as several other items. I hate overpromising and under delivering, we have at least 2-3 quarters of work before we would consider this, but it’s good to hear the feedback that customers are using RasPi’s like this.

I’ve heard that the RasPi’s are

  • cheap (about as cheap as it gets)
  • ok with IT, or just not managed by IT.

In addition to considering a Linux app, we’re also considering releasing a version of the TulipOS that runs on Edge IO / Edge MC specifically for the RasPi, which would bring tighter integration to the Tulip cloud, and would take care of firmware updates and other administrative tasks. I’m openly soliciting feedback on that idea.
