Deprecation of saveImage and openFile writing to Network Drives

Tulip is implementing a new site setting in the Account Settings page which will give customers the ability to toggle being able to write to or read from network drives. This new site setting will be implemented starting in r329 and will be enabled such that writing to or opening from network drives is not allowed by default but can be modified. Writing to or opening from local drives will remain enabled regardless of this new setting.

In r336, further implementation of this change will be introduced such that trigger actions of saveImage and openFile follow the selected state of the new site setting which will control this behavior. Again, this site setting will by default only allow customers to write or open from local drives and not network drives.

If you determine that writing or opening to network drives is required, then you will have the ability to modify the site setting at any time between r329 and r336 to ensure no disruption.

The rationale for the change is that it is a security risk for customers to write or open directly from network drive. Please note that this behavior is recommended by Tulip to remain off by default but can be changed.

Please reach out to your Tulip representative for any questions.

I have two questions.

  1. Why are you deprecating the feature by default?
  2. Is there any way for the Account Owners to find out whether the users in the instance are currently using the feature?

Hi @ta-aoki,

I’ve added the rationale (security) for the change itself.

You will need to reach out to your Tulip representative to get the list of affected apps.

Sincerely,

Jake

Can you add the word here such like “this setting will have effect starting from r336” ?

Hi @ta-aoki,

We could add the additional text but this account setting will persist further than r336 and make its way into LTS15.

This would confound other customers.

Sincerely,

Jake

Yes, you can then erase that in r336 and LTS15.

Hi @ta-aoki,

This is not as simple as making the change and reverting it for LTS customers.

Sincerely,

Jake

If the description and the actual behavior is different, it will confuse many users.

Hi @ta-aoki ,

I’m happy to adjust the description to better reflect the behavior.

Sincerely,

Jake

Yes, so please do adjust it, The current description does not say anything about this toggle having no effect at this moment. Which confuses us.
