Is there a way to insert or move records within a table similar to how we can rearrange fields? I’ve been exporting tables to Excel and re-importing them just to move records around, but I keep running into an issue where any new records I place in between existing ones in Excel just get added to the bottom of the table after importing them instead of staying where I put them. Not sure if this has already been brought up before, but if anyone knows a better way to reorder or insert records between existing ones, I’d really appreciate it—thanks!
Hi @kaylee
There is no god-given order on records.
It simply depends on the field you are sorting after.
Initially it is the order you add records.
Why do you need a specific order, in the table? It is just some space to store your data. In the app you can order after any rule you like.
Exporting and importing ist simply refresh (and destort) the adding date.
The table is set up so that each record ID is one of our station names, and each field represents a different product we build, with links to the corresponding work instructions for that station. All of our Tulip apps reference this table to pull the correct work instructions. I recently needed to add two stations that aren’t currently using Tulip but still need to exist in the table, and when I tried to place them in the correct order of our assembly process, they just got added to the bottom instead of where they belong. That’s why I’ve been trying to export the table, reorder it in Excel, and re-import it, but the same thing keeps happening—they still get pushed to the bottom. I considered deleting all the records and re-importing everything at once in the correct order, but since there are 20+ apps actively using this table, it would be really difficult to reset everything safely. It’s not a huge issue, but it would definitely be nice if Tulip made table management a little easier.
So the Order is not related to data but to your personal knowledge?
What about a “location” or “Sort String” or “Pos” Column? Make it like 000100, 000200, 000300…
So you can add in betweens all the time… Or you add actual location numbers if you have such…
Sorry, I think I am not that Tulip savvy; I’m not quite following what you mean. I really appreciate you taking the time to help though! I’ll keep trying a few different things on my end, and if not, I may just stick with the table being a little out of order. ![]()
