I’m currently working on a project where we’re trying to integrate SAP S/4HANA Cloud (Finance) with Tulip to track real-time cost center updates and production order confirmations directly from the shop floor.
The idea is to let operators view cost-related data and confirm financial transactions within a Tulip app, instead of waiting for batch updates from SAP. We’ve configured the connection using an OData service for S/4HANA, and the sync works fine initially, but we’re running into intermittent latency and occasional data mismatches when multiple users trigger updates simultaneously.
I’m trying to understand if there’s a best practice for managing transactional consistency when bridging SAP financial data (like cost postings or work order settlements) into Tulip apps. Has anyone here handled real-time data synchronization or error recovery in similar manufacturing-to-finance setups?

Real-time with SAP finance is less about forcing instant commits and more about handling updates safely when multiple operators act at once. Here’s a pattern that generally works well in Tulip:

Use an HTTP Connector function to read the latest SAP values on demand and show them in the app.

Use a second HTTP Connector function to post updates. In the connector outputs, capture the posting result fields you need (for example, posting number, confirmation status, or message text).

Log each request/response in a Tulip Table with fields like:
ID | Request Payload | Status | Response Message | Timestamp
This provides traceability and lets you retry cleanly if SAP responds slowly or with an error.

In the UI, disable the submit button while the post is in progress.
Once the post returns successfully, call your “read” connector again to refresh what the operator sees.

Keep connector outputs structured with dot notation so it’s easy to map values to variables or tables.
This lets operators interact with SAP almost in real time while keeping the data consistent and recoverable across multiple users.

Good question. Yes, frequent connector calls can impact performance. Here’s the simple pattern we use:

Read SAP data on demand (screen load or after a post), rather than on a fast timer.

If you need auto-refresh, use a 10–30 second interval to avoid unnecessary load.

Keep connector responses small by only returning the fields the operator needs.

If things start to slow down, increase the refresh interval or reduce the payload size.
This keeps the experience “near real-time” without putting pressure on SAP or the connector host.
