An update here - with Player 2.7.0 Release you can now print directly from a Macbook (or Linux) that is running Player 2.7.0 (or later).
Note: You need to set up triggers appropriately to send the print command to the Player on Macbook instead of using the “At this station” option. Also, the Macbook needs to be always online and player running all the time, so screen locks, auto logout etc needs to be disabled on the Mac.
