I am using the in-app print button to print a list of records which holds schedule information. If more records exist than fit on the page, using print will essentially take a screen shot of what’s currently on the screen. The problem is, even switching to a new page or scrolling down in the table doesn’t allow printing of the newly seen content. It will only print page 1 regardless of the page number selected and it completely ignores scrolling. I understand I can export to CSV to achieve my desired result but that’s a lot of additional steps for the user.
I suggest a more user friendly printing option that allows the user to choose which content to print based on page selection of the in-app table or using scroll.
Thanks for the suggestion here. @shep is the product manager responsible for this feature, but he’s currently out of office. I’ll flag this to him so he can take a look when he’s back and ask any follow up questions to help scope this for the team.
One question I have, would it be possible to avoid printing in this scenario (reduce paper and keep things digital) ?
While it is possible to go fully digital in this scenario, there are some factors to consider before making the switch. For example, the paper schedules are placed directly on the machine itself using magnets. If we were to mount a tablet to the machine, the vibrations would cause the tablet to slip and shake, creating a safety concern. We want to keep the schedule in very close proximity to the point of operation, and due to limited working space, a computer station isn’t the best solution. The end goal is to go fully digital, but we typically make that transition over a period of time through multiple versions. This approach allows our employees to gently ease into the Tulip world, while also giving me time to find solutions to the aforementioned problems, such as limited working space.
Paper is going out the door, but unfortunately, it is providing a semi-functional temporary solution.
Hi @Zkreiley, thanks for the post! We unfortunately don’t yet have any immediate plans to alter our printing capabilities. I think the only workarounds I can suggest are, what Beth said in keeping things digital, or by having multiple steps/tables to display all the content you need to print.
We’ve been investigating printing use cases more broadly and believe we would need to rethink printing in Tulip instead of altering the existing print functionality.
